Hello everyone! In the Recurrent Events segment for Episode 33 of The Retro Resurgence Podcast, I (Ken) talk about some notable video/arcade games that are having milestone anniversaries in 2026! It’s hard to believe that some of these games that I’m going to list are going to be many decades old already. Some of these we played from our consoles at home (NES,Sega,N64, etc.). And some we experienced in the arcades! What a great time it was, to be dropped off at the mall, unsupervised, and have the freedom to play your favorite games! Star Search is Back!

One of the original “reality” shows is back. Star Search, the popular singing, dancing, and comedy show where contestants competed for judges votes to win 100,000 dollars. The original version of the show ran from 1983 to 1995, hosted by Ed McMahon. It tried to make a brief comeback in 2003, but this latest iteration, produced by Netflix and hosted by Anthony Anderson. and judges Jelly Roll, Sarah Michelle Gellar and Chrissy Teigen. Original Jaws NES video game gets physical re-release for PS5 and Nintendo Switch

Just in time for Christmas and to end 2025 for the 50th anniversary of the release of JAWS in theaters, the original NES game of Jaws which was released in 1987, will be getting a physical re-release for the PS5 and Nintendo Switch! Not only will you get the game, but if you pre-order the Bigger Boat Editon, you will get a bunch of awesome JAWS swag to go with it! We can expect a brand new Batman Lego Video game to release sometime in 2026! This game will span many different iterations from the dark knight’s vast universe including film, television, comics and games. HBO Max Drops Documentary “The Shuffle”

The HBO Original documentary short THE SHUFFLE, directed by Jeff Cameron (HBO’s “Hard Knocks”), debuted November 25th on HBO and HBO Max Streaming Platform. The documentary is the first in a new series of short football films, made in partnership with NFL Films that chronicles the making of the 1985 Chicago Bears’ iconic rap music video that became a cultural phenomenon enroute to the team’s storied Super Bowl XX championship. 80s musicians Stan Bush and Vince DiCola are set to perform on March 14, 2026 at TFCon 2026 in Los Angeles, California. TFCon is the annual convention that brings fans of the Transformers franchise together! Stan Bush began his career with his first studio album in 1979 with a band called Boulder. Bush was primarily a guitarist for that band before the group split in different directions after releasing only one self-titled album.
